Detroit Portraits in Iron

In early 2014, I started an artist residency at 555 Gallery and Studios in Detroit. Run by a group of artists, it had moved from successive locations around Southeast Michigan since the 1990's. I first got to know them in Ann Arbor. In 2006 I was in a show in their first Detroit location. Their location on West Vernor Ave. was originally a precinct house which they had cleaned up and refurbished over several hears into several studios and a central gallery space. A rotating group of artists, always new and engaging filled the various spaces. Shows and events were put on in the gallery space and classes engaged neighborhood students.  I came to work with Casey Westbrook in his iron casting workshops.
